Hillwalking Strath Mor, Skye - Scottish Walks.
Difficulty. Easy. Duration. 2 Hrs. O.S. 32
The start of Strath Mor can be found at the head of Loch Slapin in Skye and its end is at the small village of Luib on Loch Ainort. At its beginning spare some time and take in the wonderful views of Blabheinn 928 and Garbh Bheinn 806 on the loch shore. These mountains are outlying crops of the Black Cuillins in that they are made primarily of gabbro thus giving the “black” appearance as opposed to the “red” mountains on the other side of the loch, nice contrast, though.
.
The traverse is as easy as it gets, with the path, sometimes narrow but very negotiable and low level, with Garbh Bheinn to the left and Beinn na Callich to the right. Also at the beginning, Loch na Sguabaidh should whet the appetite for the rest of the journey, which will take around two hours. Also, this is a great cycle route but make sure you have a mountain bike between your legs. Leisurely walking is the best way to do the walk to Luib. Strathmor is one to watch.
